Looking at you over my shoulder is a portrait of Leslie C. Quick Jr., a true financial pioneer and a graduate of Widener’s business program. Mr. Quick, a founder of the Quick and Reilly Group, Inc. in New York , was a visionary who led the way on Wall Street in offering discounted stock trading to individual customers--the first in the nation. In 1997 Quick and Reilly was sold to Fleet Financial Service in Boston , retaining its identity within Fleet. In 2004 Bank of America acquired Fleet and folded Quick and Reilly into its Bank of America Investment Service unit, marking the official end to the Quick name on Wall Street.

But the Quick name is far from forgotten on the Widener campus. In 2002 Quick Center , home of the School of Business Administration was opened. I consider it a personal honor to have met Les Quick.
